The Greek Revolution of 1821
400 years of slavery were more than enough for the Greeks to
decide to fight against the Ottomans.
For many years the Greeks were resisting and trying to get their
freedom. The most important reasons to stay united all these years
were the language, the religion, the history and the education of the
Greek people.
‘’Filiki Eteria’’,a Greek secret organization, also helped in the
preparation of the Greek revolution which took place onMarch 25th
of 1821.
The Revolution started from Moldovlahia and soon spread
all over Greece. During the fight for freedom many Greek army
leaders became legends all around Greece. Theodoros Kolokotronis,
Andreas Miaoulis, Markos Mpotsaris, Georgios Karaiskakis, Nikitaras,
Laskarina Mpoumpoulina, Manto Mavrogenous, Konstantinos Kanaris,
OdysseasAndroutsos, Athanasios Diakos and many others guided
Greece to Liberation. The motto was «Freedom or Death».
Soon Europe knew about the Greeks fighting for Independence.
The French, the Germans, the English were sending food, weapons,
Lord Byron money, writing articles and poems inspired by the heroes.
Greek blood was all over the country but the Greeks finally won
their freedom. Today we honor 200 years from 25th March 1821
and we thank all the Greek heroes for their sacrifice. They would
rather die free than live under Ottoman slavery. We are really proud
of them and of our little country. We should never forget the great
Greeks!!!
